Display PostScript probably would be a pretty good pick, though what is best still depends on some agreement as to what the web is actually supposed to be/do, like DPS would be good for the web as remote applications, but that's still only one vision of the web

browsers should just be mini-os'es that run some standard asm and give the website a certain amount of ram to work with and request more. then anyone could just write languages website side and it would be fine

People ask because they genuinely want to know what other alternatives are there. I will include myself in this. I've been doing web development for years now and I know it sucks and I hate many aspects of it, but in a sense, "I don't know anything else".
