Fortnite's battle royale mode is a lot smoother than PUBG, if you haven't played it. Not exactly the same game, but still a lot of fun. (The PvE mode is the real bread and butter, though. If you like building pillow forts, it's like the ultimate version of that, with guns)

I don't really want to play a building game, though - I just want CounterStrike with closing circle and real net code :)

Also grew up on dial-up. In a world of AAA micro transaction-fuelled hell I feel the clunky state of pubg is quaint and endearing.

The times when it lays out so bad that cars are driving themselves is also added tension. It's a bonus mystery game. Destination unknown.

I just mean the level of client-server sync. What you see on your screen, even on a low-ping connection, is almost unrelated to the server.

Looking forward to a handmade client/server networking episode! Would be interesting to see your practical approach on the subject.

If it's of any interest, I've been sporadically working on something of that ilk http://www.codersblock.org/blog/2016/8/14/building-an-online-game-1 …
