But if it _is_ GDB's fault, then no, that's not going to cut it. Debugging needs to be fast and responsive.

Visual Studio is already too slow - it's much slower than it used to be in the MSVC6 days.

vanilla gdb's worst performance is in startup. E.g. I have some php core dumps lying around and they take about a second to load
