It means you get an address that is fictional, like your e-mail address, and then the Post Office maintains a lookup.

There are services, but it would be nice if the post office offered this. Also, banks, gov, etc still want your home address.

Related, can we get a better method of entering important information - like a bank account number - than strings?

and that's why I maintain a P.O box with phone notification. Well, that and semi regular mail theft from the letterbox at home..

US postal service is basically shutting down, so I guess they haven't been able to think of ways to innovate.

While we're at it. Electronic fund transfer and virtualized currency should be the purvey of the govt as well.
