@cmuratori just make it use texture arrays and write some lesser spec versions that index into an atlas or a 3D texture

@Jewelots_@cmuratori A 3D texture cannot be used as a replacement for a 2D array texture. You wouldn't be able to have mipmaps.

@cmuratori Array textures are available on any DX10+, OGL 3.0+, or GLES 3+ GPU. Only missing in GLES 2 and last-gen consoles. -
@cmuratori I myself started requiring array textures last year.
