@nothings @cmuratori Out of curiosity, why forks? Why not branches? which are copies somewhere along the line?

@npatsiouras@cmuratori Because they were two independent projects so I wanted to track them as two independent projects.1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

@npatsiouras@cmuratori I had never used git or github at the time so this seemed to me the most straightforward thing to do at the time.1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

@npatsiouras@cmuratori There may be ways to make it work, and those ways may even be 'better', but it was still something github1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

@nothings@cmuratori I guess it is weird. I don't know. I was very comfortable with branches as long as it was for the same project.1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

@nothings@cmuratori Since they are full copies of the same thing. And as long as I don't mess up the commits, all would be good.1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

@npatsiouras@nothings The problem with branches in _my_ case is you cannot have different permissions per branch (AFAICT).1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

@cmuratori@nothings Hmm I don't know why you'd need that. Have you checked out Bitbucket and Attlasian's SourceTree?1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes
@npatsiouras @nothings Because my branch has to be writable only by me, and the community branch has to be admin/write by others.

@cmuratori@nothings Yeah makes sense. Check Bitbucket. Maybe that one has permissions handling. Contrary to Hub it has free private repos.1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -
