@cmuratori @Jonathan_Blow exactly, you can/have to care about memory management even in a gc world, it's not the end of the world

@kenpex@cmuratori@Jonathan_Blow In the GCed world control is taken away from you...and you have to step out of the box to break even.

@cmuratori@tom_forsyth that is advice on when to use pools - to mitigate Gen 2 collections which are particularly costly for large objects.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

@cmuratori cause people dont realize how its virtually zero effort to manage your own memory if they've only used GC languages -
@tylerglaiel It's certainly less effort than all these "how to stop the garbage collection from fucking you" things that I'm reading! - Show replies

Very simple: most people can't debug worth a damn. Memory bugs are hard to debug. GC -> good for most ppl.

@cmuratori@tom_forsyth C++ is the only language that takes scope-based RAII seriously. Without it, sweeping GC is far more appealing.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
