@meteotrix @LiaSae @Reedbeta So, everything seems to be about the human eye. Has anyone looked at the effect in standard cameras?

@cmuratori@meteotrix@LiaSae Haven't found a good paper on it. Most discussions I've seen just say "lenses cannot focus perfectly".2 replies 0 retweets 0 likes -

@Reedbeta@meteotrix@LiaSae I feel like it would be sharp if it was just focus, though. I think it must be impurities in the lens, etc.?1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

@Reedbeta@meteotrix@LiaSae Because focus is just bokeh, right, so I would think it would be hard-edged "bloom" if it was focus.1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

@Reedbeta@meteotrix@LiaSae The fact that it is soft suggests some kind of scattering or other gradual falloff, does it not?1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

@cmuratori@meteotrix@LiaSae It's probably a combination of things. Small-scale bokeh + scattering + internal lens reflection + ...2 replies 0 retweets 0 likes -

@Reedbeta@meteotrix@LiaSae Yes. I feel like someone should have written a paper about this! You would want to measure it for common 35mm.2 replies 0 retweets 0 likes -

@cmuratori@meteotrix@LiaSae Yeah, camera manufacturers must have tons of information about this, but apparently aren't sharing. :(1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

@ChasBoyd@Reedbeta@meteotrix@LiaSae I don't think it's only that. The camera lens would have scattering just like the human eye, no?1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes
@ChasBoyd @Reedbeta @meteotrix @LiaSae Impurities in the glass, grind, and any kind of smudging would all cause local internal scattering.
