@cmuratori@Jonathan_Blow Games are one of the only areas of 2014 code that have that level of premium on efficiency. -
@ElliotCuzzillo@Jonathan_Blow That is only because the Web 2.0 world hasn't had to deal with competition that actually knows how to code. - Show replies

@cmuratori@Jonathan_Blow *Almost* nobody in any other area of software cares remotely that much about efficiency or especially latency. -
@cmuratori@Jonathan_Blow This is not a value judgment in any direction; it just would be good to qualify these things. - Show replies

@Jonathan_Blow@cmuratori 1) The level of disaster is quite different, and 2) even that is probably not a majority of programs written.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

@Jonathan_Blow@cmuratori Yes, agree; for interactive software GC considerably reduces quality of life. But most software is not interactive -
@Jonathan_Blow@cmuratori And for noninteractive software, GC (and related variable-latency-inducing dynamic stuff) is a big timesaver.

@Jonathan_Blow@ElliotCuzzillo Actually, Jon, I might argue that most web software isn't interactive - at least, not when I try to use it :P -
@cmuratori@Jonathan_Blow@ElliotCuzzillo The majority of it is probably governed by a GC!
