@markpapadakis I'd like to a) not program in objective-C, b) treat the iOS device as a drive from any OS, c) not have to sign anything.

@cmuratori Maybe you can approximate such a setup - if signing code is open source, maybe other folks have 'solved' this already, in part

@markpapadakis Yes and no. You cannot "sign" an executable without Apple issuing the certificate, so it's still an Apple-mitigated process.

@markpapadakis Ie., even if you do cross-platform signing, you still can't distribute to all devices without going through the iOS store.

@cmuratori Right, but you probably don't want to distribute all that often, so that could be done the way its mandated now. Also, you

@markpapadakis No. The problem is with testing and debugging. Users have problems, you can send them new builds.

@markpapadakis On Windows you can submit builds to anyone you want trivially, for testing, judging, whatever. On iOS, Apple has to approve.

@cmuratori Hm, pretty sure you can use e.g TestFlight and many other such services to distribute beta builds-without having to get APProval.

@markpapadakis Nope. That is a capped number, just like the regular setup. You get 100 devices IIRC, TestFlight or not.

@markpapadakis Maybe they've increased the number since then, but it is still capped and controlled by Apple.

@cmuratori Fair enough. I never had the need to do that so I can't quite relate, but I understand how that may be backwards/inconvenient.

@markpapadakis But all of that is noise that Apple is making developers learn and adopt. None of it is _actually_ necessary!
