Did someone decide S3TC was the best we're ever going to get for texture compression? It seems like there's been no progress on this front.
@kenpex Almost all the mobile stuff I've seen, and BC7, are all just S3TC variants. Two-color interpolation blocks.

@kenpex PVRTC is sort-of maybe a bit different, but not really. It's barely even texture compression, more like a hard-coded pixel shader :) -
@cmuratori astc is cool too, but ye, still endpoint based...
