@cmuratori It's now all 16-bit integer, actually. But they don't have any SIMD on S16 (or any S16 instrs except loads/stores, really).

@tom_forsyth@nothings@rygorous @gunvulture _Maybe_ 12x12 would be OK, but then again, maybe 8x8 is even too big (some use 4x4). -
@tom_forsyth@nothings@rygorous @gunvulture So assuming you actually want a better image at 1080p, you may need to stay at or below 8x8. - Show replies

@cmuratori@tom_forsyth@nothings @gunvulture Yes you can (and want to), but the Heisenberg Inequality still applies.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

@cmuratori@tom_forsyth@nothings @gunvulture For smooth regions, want larger DCTs; near edges, smaller ones. H265 has 4x4 .. 32x32 DCTs. -
@rygorous@cmuratori@nothings @gunvulture Sounds like what you actually want is a sparse mipmap arrangement, where each node is a 4x4 DCT. - Show replies
