Is there a (crypto) explanation somewhere about why TrueCrypt uses a key encrypted with the s+pwd, rather than just the s+pwd?
@_AndrewRussell If it's just user convenience, then that's fine - I just want to make sure I'm not missing something numerically important.

@cmuratori I'm sure that it's not cryptographically important (assuming hash(s+pw)). But not "would-feel-safe-writing-crypto-code sure" ;) -
@_AndrewRussell The only thing I could think of is if there was an "amount of encrypted information available" factor in the attack.
