Why do people still ship DirectX games? It seems like all lose compared to OpenGL these days...
@GrumpyHook @rygorous @cmuratori No, it isn't. You still can't ship a game on it that doesn't _always_ require a _redist install_

@cmuratori@GrumpyHook@rygorous I thought the "redist install" was 99% a redist version check and terminate. -
@tom_forsyth@GrumpyHook@rygorous Nope.@Jonathan_Blow and I just went through this for a DX9 game _on Windows fucking 8_. - Show replies

@cmuratori@GrumpyHook@rygorous OpenGL apps will just run on Win 7 and Win 8 if the driver is recent. DX9 games won't. -
@cmuratori@cmuratori@GrumpyHook@rygorous That starkly contrasts my experience.

@cmuratori@GrumpyHook What? Of course you can. Don't link against D3DX. There's no need to use D3DX. Ever. -
@rygorous@GrumpyHook I'll take your word for it - I guess most games just _do_ link against D3DX? - Show replies

@cmuratori@rygorous DX9 hasn't had a rev since 9.0c(?) I can't conceive why someone would need a reinstall, it's just a check and exit.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
