Yes. It's a logic produced by the pressures of the market, but it's not market forces per se. Just like monopolies are theoretically very bad for markets, but practically market forces produce monopolies. I think capitalism has an unfortunate tendency to recreate feudalism.

What would you advice small teams and single developers working on niche ideas in this reality? How can One realistically make a vision of a game work if it’s not typical?

Extremely small team: have proper jobs, work in your spare time. Bigger team: drag yourselves from publisher to publisher, hoping one of the games will take off. (You can do this for decades.)
