      Whole heartedly agree. Another point: if your code is so busy trying to be documentation it most likely isn't doing what it is supposed to do very efficiently. (@cmuratori )

      I strongly dislike line-by-line comments because they are almost always detrimental, but I myself always put large block comments at the top of files that implement non-trivial architectures or algorithms, if for no other reason that to remind myself why I did it that way :)

          I really like the NOTE approach in GHC - notes are long comments with a name and explain invariants, decisions, or algorithms. Then they are referenced like `Note [Depend on GHC.Tuple]`https://www.stackbuilders.com/news/the-notes-of-ghc …

          This way readers know which comments are relevant, even across files. And you can use code search to figure out where an invariant/concept is important while refactoring!
