So are you writing backwards in these? Or do you have a special mirrored shirt that you wear?

Cool, I didn't realize this! Must be a special t-shirt...

Will the database stream be posted to YouTube?
-
I haven't looked at it yet. If I feel like it can be edited into useful pieces then yes. But I wasn't particularly happy with how the stream went in general.

The content you put out lately is absolutely fantastic I watch every video twice as there is so much new stuff for me in them. It made me realize I am not programmer but professional library gluer.

Great video. I see this in my domain — distributed server systems — all the time as well, with people doing fake optimization in the name of “scalability.”

Another way to frame the dichotomy between 1/2 vs 3 is “do you reason from first principles or not,” which seems like a big problem among programmers in general. More complexity makes it harder to reason about the lower level, so it’s a vicious cycle.

I think of them as: 1) Make positive changes 2) Don't make negative changes 3) Make random changes

What I see is that mostly people don't care and don't think it is their job to care how the computer will run their code. They either think the computer is fast enough or they don't realize how much faster it ciould be. I see #3 mostly in novices which at least *want* to optimize
-
another huge problem IMO is that people don't write fast code even when it is not hard and also they prioritize less lines of code and abstraction related excuses 10000 times because either they are lazy or really believe that that is the only way to write large software
