[1/*] So, it has happened again. We tried to send out news of our Kickstarter (via SparkPost SMTP) to our 8000+ member mailing list, and GMail/Outlook helpfully sent like 50% of it to spam, according to our customers. What should we do?

[2/*] This kind of thing infuriates me, because these are people who went through the trouble of signing up for our mailing list, and we send out an e-mail only once every few months. It used to work just fine a few years ago. Now, it all goes to spam for no obvious reason.

[3/*] We'd really like to get this stuff sorted out. It's insane that this is still an infrastructure problem in 2021. Suggestions welcome.

Are you using a dedicated IP pool with your email provider? A shared one might cause poor reputation from peers to affect you

That's a good question. I assumed SparkPost would tell us about that but I don't know? I will look into it. There are no "to-dos" on our configuration page, but it may be elsewhere.

Dedicated IP pools are usually more $$, so it might be only available at a higher plan/tier

This is my main idea as well. The server you are on has a bad reputation already

I looked into this and yes, it was an upgrade thing. So I got one. I am not clear on how they magically find an IP all of a sudden that doesn't _already_ have a reputation, of course...

But I also contacted support and I am going to ask for more guidance here. We'll give it another shot over the next few weeks, because we were planning on sending at least one more mail anyway.

Check your emails through https://www.mail-tester.com/ or a similar service. If they get 10/10 you should be more or less good to go. Less than that should give you an actionable step.

Thanks for that! Looks like everything was good except we were missing a dmarc TXT, I think because that system was added long after we set up the mailing list :( Don't know how much that will help, but, it needed to be done either way.
