[1/*] Just to clarify, in the hopes of getting less lunacy in my mentions: I am a professional programmer. I have implemented novel hash functions before. I work on server code. I long ago read and completely understand the original BitCoin paper.

[4/*] What I will be doing in the interviews I plan to conduct is asking highly technical people to walk through exactly what they think blockchain technically provides that other consensus protocols would not provide.

We are already using cheaper protocols. Most shitcoins people mention to you, including Solana and soon including Ethereum, are not secured by PoW.
-
But it is possible one of the people I interview will say that those are just shitcoins, and that PoW is important, and then lay out an actual case for it that convinces me. I mean, it could happen. I will be keeping an open mind throughout this process!

What do you think of ADA or XRP? Aren't those "cheaper" consensus protocols as you describe them?
-
More specifically, what I mean to say is, when someone argues that a particular consensus protocol does thing X, I will ask them to prove to me that a _weaker_ consensus protocol does not also achieve X in practice.

Maybe ping
@silviomicali and@IOHK_Charles. They both seem like solid candidates for such an interview.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

More smart ones are aware of the flaws that for example eventually powerful minors will be in control and you need a huge amount of money to keep it from their tireny and the algo doesn't help with that at all.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HrehEWYj16s …

I think a short superficial reply could be: bcz there's nothing else truly decentralized. Also, we would need to define "cost". The social costs of fiat r arbitrary & huge & *all* current PoS sys have founders holding most stakes(often cleverly obfuscated), similar to fiat.

Sounds to me like your problem is not with the technology but with the societal assumptions that crypto stems from. If you trust the authorities with money and power, you have nothing to gain from blockchains or decentralization, and no argument can convince you otherwise.
-
Otherwise, you can go ahead and create the better system with those weaker, cheaper protocols and change the world, I guess.
