[2/*] I know exactly what crypto _does_. The issue is not that I need the technology explained to me. The issue is that I disagree with the lofty claims about the benefits of blockchain as a consensus as opposed to less costly consensus protocols.

[3/*] Either there are or aren't solid, thorough arguments for why blockchain is a necessary cost to bear for economic consensus protocols and cannot be substituted with weaker, cheaper protocols, or there aren't. I want to hear them. I am not currently hearing them.

[4/*] What I will be doing in the interviews I plan to conduct is asking highly technical people to walk through exactly what they think blockchain technically provides that other consensus protocols would not provide.

@cmuratori Do you know any blockchain solution which serve with a non beneficial consensus mechanism that isn‘t bound to massive energy consumption? I‘m wondering if it is possible to run an entire dapp without any fees on a use-case centric deployed p2p network with blockchain -
It would be interesting to experiment running a multiplayer game entirely decentralized with p2p discovery

Sounds like an undertaking, I'd watch it all the way! Going to provide some resources if useful. So are you saying that you are familiar with why Bitcoin's Energy Usage would be justifiable but want to explore the technical detail around consensus? see:https://unchained.com/blog/bitcoin-does-not-waste-energy/ …
-
I actually think energy usage is not the most important thing to get straightened out. I want more convincing explanations of why BitCoin is a good idea even if it had no potentially negative environmental impacts.

The obvious retort to "[I] completely understand the original Bitcoin paper" you will get from an acolyte is "obviously not". The discussion you want to have is going to be hard because the space has evolved its own set of gnostic teachings.
-
But that's fine because I can then have them walk me through what they think I don't understand about the BitCoin paper, which is the discussion we need to have, etc.
