It was disheartening reading through the list of "software tech" people replied to @Jonathan_Blow claiming they were invented "after the 90s". Almost all of them weren't. People saying things like PAXOS (1988 thru 1998) and race detectors (multiple in the 1990s), etc.

To be fair, even in the half-hour version of the talk, lots of people had the same replies, even after I *knew that would happen* and tried to plan the talk to minimize it.

I think there is more to this. More like drivers refusing to adjust their driving skills to the new tech despite there is evidence that it is not optimal. Refusing to question one’s own dogmas in face of evidence is an ancient human problem.
