It is strange to hear the phrase, "private corporations can do what they want" in 2021. That has not been the case for over a century now, and is shockingly ignorant of the fact that the world imposes literally tens of thousands of regulations on private corporations already.

A simple fix would just be to say, either you are a common carrier, and then you will be immune from liability, or you are not, and then you get no immunity whatsoever. That is the only fair policy IMO, because otherwise internet companies are basically "above the law".

In other words, they get important rights we do not (ability to violate people's copyright, ability to avoid libel lawsuits, etc.)
