Both people mentioned (Gabe Newell and Jay Stelly) would happily tell you they never bailed out RAD. If you want to interpret co-funding a specific project as "bailing out" a company, then all companies in the world have been "bailed out"??

The reason for the co-funding was pretty simple. Both RAD and Valve wanted to see a high-quality Linux debugger become available, and some employees of Valve were going to work on the debugger alongside RAD employees.

@richgel999 has turned this into his head into a "bailout" is beyond me. Neither company was in financial distress. Neither company needed this project to succeed (and it DIDN'T succeed, and both companies were fine). Seriously, this is just plain delusional.Show this thread

I remember how cool it was to see what became Pixomatic running DSiege in software while it was still a WIP. Surely this meant MS was bailing RAD out back then too? There can be no other explanation! (More the other way round w.r.t lousy driver support)
