So I could easily have seen a world where people merely said "I got the latest Pfizer vaccine" or "I got the latest Moderna vaccine" much more like "I got the latest nVidia card", much moreso than "I remembered the weird-ass trade name of this particular booster".

You’re right, the public will call products whatever is more convenient for them. But companies still have to give their products distinctive names. The public doesn’t have to use them, and if using the company’s name is enough, they won’t, as the examples you brought show.
