Even politicians shouldn't be "vetted" this way. Well-functioning systems are ones where people are vetted for their relevant skills. All humans have differing perceptions of reality. Jeopardy hosts should be good at hosting Jeopardy, governors should be good at governing, etc.https://twitter.com/jonathanchait/status/1430213642251874305 …

This new practice of vetting actors and celebrities like they're politicians is creepy. Can't we just go back to living in a world where game show hosts have some weird beliefs? https://twitter.com/EoinHiggins_/status/1430204562284191755 …

See I dunno, a Jeopardy host is only good if people tune in, so any outside factor that may or may not effect that metric ultimately is going to be a concern. Television viewers aren't purely a gauge of their explicit effectiveness at their task, and they never have been.

Huh what? That's such a bizarre statement. Whether people watch a game show depends entirely on how entertaining it is.

That's what I'm saying, and if they are less entertained because of the context of the host, that will factor into whether or not they watch

That's what "effectiveness" is for a game show host.

Yep, which explains the vetting, which OP was questioning

I think that's not the gravamen here. The complaint was _with the people_. In other words, the complaint is that people are petty for expecting Jeopardy hosts to hold certain beliefs. They didn't use to demand that, now they do, maybe that's bad, etc.

Eh, I think people were just as petty back then, they just didn't have access to the info. There's very little historically to suggest people's expectations are getting stricter

Perhaps. Or perhaps they may have had access to the info, they just didn't have access to the social media service necessary to force their opinions on others.

If it was only a matter of forced opinion, the numbers would drop. I don't think tv started reacting because people talked louder, I think they started reacting because the figured out why fewer people were seeing their ads
