Add to that, that it's almost an adolescent mindstate; wanting and trying to de-politicize money. It's bordering on the silly. Its almost 14 year old "i just got into libertarianism" levels of silly.https://youtu.be/LpI2-71Hxwk

I completely agree with you. Currency is not difficult. Anyone can make it. Crypto solves nothing. It's police, courts, law, and military that are hard, and without them to back it, currency is worthless - so there there really can't be money without politics.

I think crypto aim to solve a problem that doesn't exist. There is nothing peer to peer about BC for instance. The economist I linked to, gives a far better example where P2P would actually provide benefit and it was wrt to Greece's financial crisis and if banks got shut down.

I could find a clip about that, if you're interested.

I understand you and Varoufakis think "crypto" holds no real value. I'd like to know what should a government do about it.

A refutable statement asserting Bitcoin has no real value would be good too. I can think of a refutable statement about Bitcoin capability to hold valuie. "Most nation states own Bitcoin". Of course this is false up to this point, but I think this will be true eventually.

1/2 There might be a use case for the technology behind CC. But as a currency? As Casey said, that problem is not hard. And we can't depoliticize money, which is the mythology around CC, of the "problem" it is trying to "solve".

As Yanis, I would also argue that the attempt to de-politicize money over the last 40 years *is* the problem & CC would only exacerbate this. The financial sector holds essentially all the power - and it has completely decoupled from the real economy. CC would not solve this.
