Apparently, Intel's next generation desktop processors do not have AVX-512 support. https://www.anandtech.com/show/16881/a-deep-dive-into-intels-alder-lake-microarchitectures/5 …

Wasn't AVX512 already quite useless in consumer hardware because of lack of support on all other sides of the aisle atm. Maybe Intel specific binaries could use it otherwise... hmm... They did port over VNNI to AVX2 too. AVX-VNNI is the official name iirc.https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=GCC-11-AVX-VNNI …

Well, I'm not sure what you mean, but in general the reason AVX-512 was not happening in consumer hardware was just because nobody was shipping a usable part. It was assumed that newer chips would fix the downclocking, heat generation, etc. over time.

So we were all at least expecting to be given a usable AVX-512 CPU for high-end gaming and such at _some_ point. Zen 4, in fact, may still have it. The leaked Gigabyte documents suggest it might. But we will have to wait and see.

My assumption is that Intel simply had to nerf the AVX-512 from this round of chips because of their fab snafus, and that they actually _will_ ship AVX-512 desktop parts in the future.
