I seriously can't handle the fact that the BLAKE core is identical to the Chacha core, but has all the rotates going the opposite way because they misread the spec.

@hashbreaker can't misread the spec because he designed the algorithm :) So Chacha is "correct" by definition. BLAKE was trying to use Chacha as the core, but somehow misread the shift direction, which is odd because presumably they could have checked a reference imp...1 reply 0 retweets 4 likes
I assume the authors of BLAKE never went back and corrected the error because there was no particular cryptographic reason why the rotates had to go in that direction (eg., I assume if somehow getting the direction wrong weakened the hash, they would have fixed it in BLAKE2 etc.)
