This is a company that refused to unlock the iPhone of a terrorism suspect. Exactly what federal law do you suggest they are complying with here that violated their "free will"?

Isn’t it only on pictures that are about to be uploaded to iCloud? The idea being that they’re screening photos before storing them in their datacenter, but doing it on-device to avoid scanning iCloud files wholesale?

Do cloud storage companies have any liability if they store illegal images, or are they protected by section 230? With section 230 being attacked recently, and the REAL ID bill looming, this could be less a moral change and more a reduction in exposure change.
