I know that I have mild obsessive issues because it bothers me on some deep level to know that we have never found the Alkemstone, even though it's a terrible game and nobody cares. Just the fact that there _is_ an unsolved puzzle is upsetting!https://bluerenga.blog/2021/07/27/alkemstone-all-the-clues/ …

I'm furious at you for introducing us to this, because I spent way more than my lunch hour yesterday "just taking a quick peek to see what it's all about." But holy crap those puzzles are obtuse (and I can't stop puzzling over a handful of them).

I apologize for spreading the pain :/ The problem, of course, is that much like the progenitor of the genre (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Masquerade_(book) …), the puzzle designer was terrible, so we also know that these puzzles are bad, potentially even unsolvable :(

I remember my family puzzling over Treasure: In Search of the Golden Horse back in the day. I recently read an article about the Masquerade solution and yeah... even had the internet existed I doubt I'd ever have been able to solve those weirdo "puzzles"

I hope somehow the Alkemstone one gets some traction, so that enough people will randomly guess things until we happen to stumble upon something that works :)

That would be cool. I guess I'll throw my two cents into that chat. Maybe it will spark someone smarter than me to solve something. But wait, if the puzzle designs are BAD... An idiot like me might be just the person to get it done!

Well, somehow my post to that discussion didn't work. So I'm off to a rollicking start! (although I blame dumb computers for this one)

The Einstein Memorial having a star map embedded into it seems very relevant! I don't remember anyone mentioning that in previous comments.

I feel like at this point we need some kind of a shared notebook where clues can be worked on and theories explored. At this point I've lost track of what everyone has said about each clue.

I agree. I'm also finding that when new theories drop I might not notice them. I'm also starting to think that even the "pure text" clues should refer back to the screenshots. As I flip through the images, I can't shake the feeling that the text position/formatting is important.

It seems unlikely to me that the map itself is used, because I don't see how anyone would obtain a copy of that map in 1981. Maybe you could mail away for one? But more to the point, the fact of the map existing is to point to the stars/astrology as a guiding principle.

Well, given how bad most of these things were, I'm pretty sure we can't rule things out on the basis of "where would people get the map". I'm pretty sure the designers never thought about stuff like that, as obvious as it should have seemed :)
