I have read, but not been able to verify, that the word "cat" comes from the sound used by ancient Egyptians to get a cat's attention. It's true that cats are much more sensitive to voiceless sounds (because they hear over 40 KHz), and the word "cat" is mostly voiceless.

Modern etymology dictionaries present cognates of the word "cat" between PIE and non-PIE languages, which suggests that the word is older than PIE, the oldest speculated language. Which brings me to the theory of linguistic monogenesis, which relates words to bodily experience...

Have you ever noticed that pretty much every natural language has a word like "no", and that word always starts with the [n] sound? Why is that? I think it's because human disgust (and its facial posture) precedes, and begets, the phenomenon of words.

Because of this, I think the relationship between cats and humans has significantly contributed to the entire history of civilization. "Cat" is one of the oldest words there is. Important things get named before unimportant things...!

That's true, they come right after dogs. Dogs are the bestest animals. (Why do you wavy underline that word, Firefox?)
