This made me quite excited, I thought that the longlines issue when I use emacs was due to the gapbuffer implementation ( I have custom hooks to clear the buffer for longlines on interactive sessions dynamically). This might solve one of the biggest REPL issues I have had!

Yeah so the key to handling long lines is just to break them into chunks, and at the beginning of each chunk, store the state of the line, so that you can pick up anywhere and still be correct.
