As a sidenote: it is insane that I am now referred to as "performance focused." If you'd told someone at RAD to "go talk to the performance guy", they would literally go to every other office _but_ mine. I was easily the least performance-focused person there!

I'm an architecture person. I work on things like stable system design, API design, code simplification, algorithm design. No coworker I know _ever_ thought "I gotta talk to Casey" if they were stumped on an optimization problem!

I believe we have reached the point where code simplification and algorithm design are considered performance hacks

I would have had to refer you to Miles, Fabian, Jeff, Sartain, or Abrash! They all were _very_ good optimizers. I didn't know anything.

Even if you are "performance foucsed" persom, isn't that the essence of computer science, aka finding optimized solutions to problems, from what i see people are just intoducing new problems each day. Plus people are really being spoiled by good (fast) hardware IMO.

I work in a very different domain than you, so I don't know if it resonates with you in the same way, but I've always lived by Joe Armstrong's words. Most of the time, if I solve a problem as simply and clearly as possible, then the code is either fast, or easy to make fast.pic.twitter.com/vlXyBTqQ2M

“Make it work, then make it beautiful, then if you really, really have to, make it fast. 90 percent of the time, if you make it beautiful, it will already be fast. So really, just make it beautiful!”

Nope - that's all Charles and Fabian (http://cbloomrants.blogspot.com/  and https://fgiesen.wordpress.com/about/ )... possibly some Jeff too, I would guess.
