Reading this whole thread has been one of my most irritating experiences of 2021 so far. Kudos! "If we don't use std::string to compose a ~12 char string in a function in an inner loop, it will hurt readability!"

I've followed the thread on GitHub. I think your engineering arguments are sound, at least it seems so with my background. But I can see how difficult it might be for them to accept that at face value, especially because they don't share this same background.

As a side note, when something is obviously good, simple, efficient, it tends to be counter-productive to underscore it, at least when talking to contrarian people. Typically I tend to be irritated by Steve Jobs style marketing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nx7v815bYUw ….

Using litotes or understatements is, in my opinion, a safer, more diplomatic, and efficient way of advertising when talking to the engineering crowds. Good example: https://www.learnlinux.ie/content/linus-torvalds-original-announcement-usenet …

I rage-quit the thread before telling them that _two separate people_ on the Molly Rocket forums posted complete terminal renderers that annihilated the Windows one _written in the week since that bug report went up_. Maybe they should get PhD's too?
