[2/3] Intellectual property is something that we created in order to bridge the physical and artificial, because people who do real work in intellectual domains need to be able to participate in physical economies so they can eat, buy clothes, and have shelter.

[3/3] Nobody should be working to _extend_ the need for intellectual property. The end goal for humanity is to have no scarcity at all, so we no longer need intellectual property - not to perpetuate scarcity, which is something we should all work to some day end for good.

I literally only learned of NFTs last week, but overnight they seem to be everywhere. I would agree with you except for one thing: I’m seeing artist actually make money for a change. Artist deserve to make a living. Until I learn more, gotta believe this is a net plus.
-
There's nothing about the structure of nfts that ensures money goes to the artist. Anyone can "mint" an nft and the marketplace is at least as beset with fraud as any other

How could you appreciate, and by extension value, any intellectual endeavor without scarcity? If we cloned Da Vinci, would their work be considered on their own unique merits or on the merits of the original?
-
First of all, in cloning ethics, a clone has its own subjectivity apart from the original's and thus is its own person, as to avoid both legal issues of immortality through cloning and advocating chattel slavery. Second, the point IS to "devalue". To cut the need to monetize.

NFTs are cross application virtual assets. Improvement over assets tied to specific games or platforms. Just for fun. Scarcity on essentials is not good. I guess you’re not a fan either of collectables or limited editions of physical goods.
-
well collectables and limited editions of goods don’t usually individually release as much carbon dioxide as a small village

They didn't create scarcity. They created *value*.

I don't know anything about NFTs but I don't think this artificial scarcity is a problem per se. It's a way to emulate some aspects of the physical world that tie in to the economy, the same as copyright, or just electronic banking. It's just accounting.
