Is there any honest reason why Windows can't have a box you check that says "I certify that I am an actual adult who knows what a computer is" and then it turns off all the absolute garbage that they have stuffed in here, like Cortana, Microsoft accounts, forced updates, etc.?

Using both Linux and git - no, of course not and talking to people who say that is probably useless. But maybe there is a point at which one OS has the /preferable tradeoffs/ and after switching, you wonder how you put up with being treated like… not an adult, for so long.

Also, apart a base level of maturity of an OS, there may be an inverse correlation between things that are" foolproof and never have bugs or missing features" and things that "treat you like an adult". Windows is increasingly MacOS-ified. Don't like that? Consider leaving.

Step 1: tweet a complaint about Windows Step 2: wait exactly eleven seconds for someone to say "just switch to linux". Step 3: respond "never heard of linux before, isn't that what they use for macs? I'm talking about a windows computer".
-
Ten of those eleven seconds are just Twitter's slow servers. The people who say "just switch to Linux" have sub-second latency.

"I learned that by reading Twitter.". I'm stealing this quote and will start using it in real life. It's great.
