I know. Just wanted to say that browsers are definitely not slow at rendering.

I mean CrossCode is a browser game and a pretty good one.

CrossCode is a 2D game that could run fine on decades old hardware. It's also built on WebGL which sidesteps the HTMLDOM renderer. Arguing the equivalent of python being fast by mostly benchmarking its native C-library extensions isn't very convincing.

FYI CrossCode is not Webgl. It’s using canvas which also Google sheets uses. So the comparison is not that ridiculous.

It's still not rendering a web page. It's using a separate 2D API that bypasses all normal layouting/painting/etc, as Casey pointed out. Even still, to reiterate, we're talking about a game that should run just fine on decades old hardware, yet... reading their blog it's apparent

Agreed. But so does Google sheets. Owner drawn layout. That’s the only point I want to make. Web is easily fast enough for websites and applications. VSCode being the prime example which uses standard dom

A basic game and app that should be able to run fine on decades old hardware being able to just barely run smoothly on my *vastly* overpowered gaming computer does in no way qualify as "Web is easily fast enough [...]". Such blatant waste anywhere else would be unacceptable.

Well it sure is successful though. Since literally everyone uses the web and no one has come up with a better paradigm yet.

It sure doesn't help that everyone keeps blindly defending it and migrating everything to it. It's also not some great technical mystery why it's broken and how to do it better. Coal power was successful too, better substitutes didn't magically just come into existence...

I bet you use stackoverflow, GitHub, Google, Twitter everyday. Yet you seem to hate the web. But if it’s so bad, why use it or why not come up with a more successful replacement? I’m not denying chrome is a resource hog but only complaining is too negative

This nonsense argument is as pervasive as it is inane. If you bought pizza from a restaurant and it was cold, and you said, "Hey, this pizza is cold!" would you expect the answer to be, "Don't be so negative. If you wanted hot pizza, you should have baked it yourself"?

I tried to have a friendly conversation but apparently that doesn’t work on Twitter. All I can say is I’d go to a different pizzeria. And no I don’t like coal which is why I’ve installed solar panels in my house. I try to change what I complain about

Yes, but you didn't invent shit. You bought what others invented for you. Yet you're here explicitly arguing against our critique of the current situation and our pleading for a better invention. How exactly is your subjective and poorly supported arguments a force for good?

Lee invented the modern web. Atwood wanted Code resources and started SO. Is my argument nonsensical? That’s how Python, GitHub, Google started. Apparently you have a solution for efficient cross platform UI rendering in mind. So why not start an OS project?

But slightly different topic. The reason for the webs success is productivity. No system will be more successful if it’s less productive to Code for. Keeping slack up to date native on all platforms without web? Maybe with flutter.
