this is a tangent, but, unfortunately the sentence is usually: "the web has poor performance, but an astonishing percentage of that is due to business decisions (tracking etc.) outside of web developers control"

well, that and terrible, terrible cargo-cult architecture decisions under the guise of "developer productivity" that end up making a developers life a living hellscape, of course, while at the same time trashing performance even further. there's also that part.

An empty screen sure. You can fill that even on the CPU. If you need to layout 2000+ nodes with many of those being text nodes, that need special layout conditions for different types of fonts and languages, it becomes a little more complicated. That's before you do any JS.
