And now they’re trying to sell us on entire mobile apps made out of JavaScript. Someone help us

That's a somewhat separate (though related) problem. The main problem with JS mobile apps is that they kill battery life.

Roger that. I don't understand the term "soydev" because I've never worked in the US tech industry, but quality coffee is worth it and lactose intolerance is totally a thing. I use Vim and I don't drink Joe.

I think it would take a LOT for most developers working on sites like this to advocate for, and gain the control over their output to actually make meaningful improvements. A lot of webdevs might be kinda powerless... It would take a coordinated movement to stand up I think.

Writter's strike, but for webdevs (?. Altho one problem is that a huge percentage of webdevs (me included at my early stage) aren't even aware of this and think resources are free, thus don't mind the wowfully x MB added by using (i.e.) moment.js or stuff like that

His simple website would never be made by a company, only an individual, because: - It makes no money from malware (ads) - It provides no way for sales/marketing to play around with tracked campaigns to justify their budget. Any dev pushing back would be replaced within minutes.
-
Also 99% of the audience of the modern web will slog through the ads to avoid paying real money for a decent recipe site. I don't think I've seen successful monetisation of a product like this without ads. Maybe an open community project could work (wikipedia for food?)
