Graphics is definitely a fringe use case in modern computing. Almost nobody uses it in their daily work. I'm not sure why you would expect an operating system to have support for graphics out-of-the-box.

The bottom line is that what it lacks in A/V reliability Linux makes up for in support for the really important computing task developers need: accumulating large ASCII log files in randomly permuted directory structures only accessible to root.
