How you know almost all of these gaming laptop reviews are fake: almost none of the laptops have trackpad buttons any more, as if you are supposed to somehow game with tap-to-click and software-induced dead times when you click or press a key. Yet no reviewer comments on this.

I've been saying this for years & not one single soul agreed with me. Worse yet is that a lot of the trackpads that are, hardware wise "ok", just end up being absolute garbage because of the software side. I find it appalling that not 1 laptop manufacturer has decided to fix this

I had some hope that this https://bill.harding.blog/2019/03/25/linux-touchpad-like-a-macbook-progress-and-a-call-for-help/ … could wake up some folks to part of the issue at hand

Ahhh, I have the opposite experience. I now actually occasionally use trackpads, because they're finally large and responsive enough to use for general UI interaction, where a good tap response is fine. I suppose it's because I never associated the trackpad with the gaming part.

Well, some people like me don't have the reference frame you older guys have 'cause I simply wasn't around when things were better. So maybe don't chalk all these replies up to insanity?

It's an example of the biggest issue with modern computer 'stuff'. Not only do people put up with software and hardware getting worse they actively defend it!

Had to check if my laptop's has buttons. I’ve been using it for 3 years. I wouldn't buy one without it. I use it when traveling. I am working 9-5 on a MacBook Pro on a buttonless. You say they’re bad. I’ve never used a better one. You wonder why we think your claims are odd.

The answer is in your response. No one uses it for gaming. That’s why it’s worse. Would you put a lot of care in the quality as a producer, if you knew most people don’t use it? Gamers think of trackpads as a last-resort and the proof is in the responses you’ve deemed wrong.

Fair enough, and certainly agreed that trackpad+no buttons makes little sense compared to both or neither. Consider, though, that gaming laptops target and are marketed to 'action gamers' more than 'strategy gamers', given it's perceived as the broadest core appeal.

Trying to point out incentives that got things here, not to justify those decisions. The lines are pretty clear to trace. I've had to use my ASUS laptop's track pad, and it's indeed thoroughly miserable due to lack of buttons. Tertiary, it also hurts scroll gestures.
