You’re implying Apple is immoral or hypocritical for making money from selling things they don’t make, but this is what retailers do. In my business, retailer takes at least 50% of what the end consumer pays. Apple, powerful for sure, but monopoly? 🤷🏻‍♂️

[1/2] Whether or not Apple has a monopoly is not a serious question. They clearly have a monopoly on iOS software. The appropriate question is, is "iOS software" a "market"? This is not a philosophical question, it is a legal question, defined by a century of US case law.

Appreciate the reply, Casey. Big fan of yours. I agree with this, but pointing out that Apple doesn’t make games is about shaming Apple in a moral sense, not about establishing under the case law whether iOS is a market or not.

It is not shaming, it is trying to demonstrate that although Apple is not a gaming company, their monopoly position (if they are found to have one) allows them to extract an enormous tax on game developers. It is directly related to the anti-trust claims.

(I have been meaning to post a long video explaining, for example, Apple v. Pepper and Illinois Brick and why the Epic lawsuit is important, but I don't have my recording setup back up yet. But most people don't read lawsuits and their Epic v. Apple takes are all way too hot :( )

I’d appreciate that, and I’m sure others would too. I read cases as a lawyer, but I confess I’ve read none of the briefs or relevant case-law here. Honestly, I’m surprised I got a well-informed response from a smart person on Twitter. So, thanks for that. 🙏
