(and if you're curious how absurd this kind of programming has become, here's the entirety of the "library" that you get by depending on is-promise: https://github.com/then/is-promise/blob/master/index.js …)

What a waste of time doing CI builds and unit testing for a single function library

A bit unrelated real story. I was reading the above article and my wife noticed section ‘Mistakes’ and asked if programmers do mistakes? Me: of course, often. She: that doesn’t sound right, what if a doctor makes a mistake! That was unexpectedly fresh attitude...

A) Please do tell your wife to become a programmer. We desperately need people with her attitude. B) Please don't tell your wife how many medical devices now run on programs written with the existing ultra-lax mentality. It's terrifying.

Imagine making (or even using) a library that is essentially 3 lines of code. What.

I think that the major problem here is the overall JS dev community mindset. Instead of having a quick read to the js spec of Promise and learn what a Thenable object is to implement the solution yourself; most of them just go straight to npm install whatever.

The attitude the majority of developers towards dependencies is terrible. The damage done by over-application of DRY and "don't reinvent the wheel" / "being lazy is a virtue" type maxims is staggering.

It’s funny how the article turns into an advert for yet-another-tool to help mitigate this disaster. Like the word needs more of them. Now you can break 1000s of users release systems too! :)
