So, I read this entire post, but the entire thing just sums up to "we think someday we could make a context-free grammar for the universe". Since they _haven't_ yet, I'm not sure what the proposed value-add is here?https://twitter.com/stephen_wolfram/status/1250063808309198849 …

I never expected this: finally we may have a path to the fundamental theory of physics...and it's beautiful https://writings.stephenwolfram.com/2020/04/finally-we-may-have-a-path-to-the-fundamental-theory-of-physics-and-its-beautiful/ … pic.twitter.com/IVvx8F97SQ

Like there are literally stacks of papers in the computer graphics literature that have precisely these kinds of algorithms their proposing here. We've done this, done this, done this, and done it again over and over. What is the actual contribution supposed to be here?

Haven't yet finished reading it, but from what I gather from the first half the main contribution is how to obtain things like dimension, curvature, energy, etc. from the pure hypergraph structure. The Lindenmayer people and the graph grammar people, never did this.

Maybe I'm being uncharitable, but I didn't really feel like they were _deriving_ anything. It was more like they were looking for some way to shoehorn every existing thing they wanted by finding some - often tortured - way of layering it on top of a graph...

Which of course, you can do, and we kind of know you can do that, because _that's why we use graphs to represent everything in computers_. Given enough nodes in a graph, you can make it represent any finite set of information, right.

Since there's supposedly 600+ pages of technical papers they've produced on this, I suppose I would have to withhold actual judgement until I read those (which I probably won't do :), but the blog did a poor job convincing me there was anything there.
