Seems inescapable that they did, given the updates to the standards. Did that version of VS's watch window support evaluating actual functions? I would have expected it to only support some really basic operations given that constexpr wasn't a thing yet.

Yes, it evaluated functions. I used that feature, in fact, to solve an old bug with DirectX where it would freeze the cursor. I made a function in the app that unfroze it, and then I put that as an expression in my watch window, so it would always call it when I stepped :)
