I have a question about N95 respirators I was hoping someone could answer for me [1/2]: If, as I've read, nearly all medical facilities don't have sufficient stockpiles of N95's, what exactly were they planning to do if there was an actual catastrophic event?

[2/2] Because I can't wrap my head around the "don't hoard N95s" messaging. Like if the plan was "if there's a catastrophe, we'll just tell the public not to buy stuff and then we'll buy it on the open market", that seems absolutely insane, yet that seems the only conclusion?

The plan was to fire the Pandemic Response Team in 2018 and "save money". You can't botch the execution of a plan if you don't have a plan in the first place <taps temple knowingly>

But Tom, that's an absurd comment and you know it. This is a per-facility thing, and either they had stockpiles or they didn't. If they'd had that in place prior to 2018, they'd still have it. There wasn't some big "destockpiling N95s" event that happened in 2018.

So this is a case of no one _ever_, like in the past 30 years, ever thinking that medical facilities should have supply quotas, unless, as I said, I'm missing some other explanation.

I'm sure they thought stockpiles would be a good idea, but that needs cash and if the official plan is "lalalala I can't hear you" then... welp...

OK, but seriously - the official plan is that these disasters only happen localised - floods, hurricanes, etc. So when a place gets hit, FEMA comes in and brings help from all the other states.
