I read "half the speed and a fourth the size" and felt like they still missed the mark. Why does a messaging app still need to be ~32mB?

If you want an app that is just a messaging app, try Messenger Lite (from FB) which is 8mb. The full Messenger also has stuff like video chat which probably explains the extra space.

I mean.. this is clearly a great step in the right direction? Shouldn't we be happy about that and you know, reward good behavior and give them some credit here instead of telling them that they should've done it sooner? This bragging may influence other app teams to follow suit.
