The right thing for @StackOverflow to do would be to stop labeling things "answers". They're more like "guesses", and calling something an "accepted answer" is misleading because all it actually means is that somebody who by definition isn't an expert thinks it's correct.

Like there is no question that Stack Overflow does the _opposite_ of this, right - they _market_ it like the answers are good. But they're pretty mediocre. I mean, I don't know, I like having things like mandatory ingredient labels?

You can flag or edit them if you know that they’re wrong. I’ve done that quite a few times. Although I will admit the barrier to entry for doing so is a bit annoying.

On top of the barrier to entry, there are many answers that are obviously bad or wrong, but you have no chance of convincing the people who will be reviewing your flag/edit - the site's most dedicated users - that it is wrong.

sometimes I will seek out particular users I know to be competent, e.g. https://stackoverflow.com/users/524368/datenwolf … but I agree the average answerer is incompetent
