Wasn't Jeff Atwood's line of reasoning "there's always opportunity when you take something that isn't working and make it better?". They definitely did that vs. Experts Exchange. I wonder if it's time for a new iteration?

This issue was something I mentioned in my 'Switching to a programmer career after 25' submission for your video back in 2016. Beginners teaching beginners...

Also when you add an 'internet point' system it turns into getting a high score by any means necessary. The idea on paper is decent enough tho.

The other SE sites (cs, gis, scicomp, and math are ones I delve into) tend to be better than SO. SO seems to be at it's best when it's the "missing manual" or the "known bug list".

I feel like any half-intelligent developer using StackOverflow is more than capable of understanding that the content is crowd-sourced and “accepted answer” means it solved the OP’s problem. I don’t see how bad developers copy/pasting code is StackOverflow’s problem to solve.

Why such a negative take on it? Even if they are guesses... guesses of the "hive mind" are far better than your own guess. Poorly documented tech in 1990? Maybe USENET will help you out, else you are stuck forever. In 2020? S/O often has the solution on a silver plate.

It's not a negative take on Stack Overflow. It's a negative take on their labeling. People need to be aware that they will have to do more research, otherwise you get this:https://twitter.com/Foone/status/1229641258370355200 …
