PSA: @itchio's web site doesn't actually work if you have third party cookies disabled, and it does not handle errors properly. So anyone who tries to purchase a product with TPCs blocked will instead be told their "card was declined", even though no charge was attempted.

Not sure what the easiest way to fix this is. I tried enabling all the cookies that bounced (http://m.stripe.network , http://js.stripe.com , etc.) but it still failed with a react.js error after that, so... yeah. I love modern web tech! So good :/

I emailed support (as the "declined" page suggested) but never heard back. Assuming they eventually e-mail me back I will happily explain the bug :)

Yes, it affects everybody, and presumably has to be fixed by Stripe? Our website is broken too (I just tested it). It didn't used to be, but now is, so I'm assuming it is some kind of bad change. Web technologies are fabulous. (Why are cookies even used for this process??)

I would love it if someone could explain to me WTF
@stripe even needs to set cookies for this process. It doesn't make any sense. Charging a credit card can just be a secure HTTPS exchange, their don't need to be any cookies involved at all?1 reply 0 retweets 3 likes -

In their cookie policy https://stripe.com/cookies-policy/legal … it says they use them for fraud prevention and detection.

So basically the answer is, Stripe invasively monitors your web activity and uses what it sees to determine whether to accept your card or not? And that's why their service doesn't work if you turn off cookies? If so, that is worse than incompetence...

Fraud is a huge issue and having something to help identify suspicious behavior really helps. We've had to deal with a ton of fraud over the years and it would cost us a company-failing amount of money if we couldn't detect it. I'm assuming PayPal doesn't work for you either?
